Nurture Fostering has designed these handbooks to help you settle into your new foster home with your foster family, provide you with useful information and important contact details.
Coming into care, or moving from one foster family to another, can be scary and confusing. At the very least it will cause some level of anxiety.
These handbooks will answer some of the questions you might have now and in the future. It is one of many sources of information available to you. Later on, in these handbooks, there is guidance as to whereas you can find help and information.

"During my time in the foster placement my carer G was so supportive and caring and makes you feel like you are part of the family. Whenever I struggled with something G would help me understand. If I was feeling sad about things G would sit with me and she would listen to me and if I was crying she would always be there for a shoulder to cry on and she would always make me feel wanted. In all of my experience in care I have never known anyone to be as supportive, caring and loving as G was to me and my daughter. If there was a prize out there for the number one carer it should be G as no matter what she is always there for you and all around she is an amazing carer!"

See Our Testimonials“MM was asked how his placement was going, he felt that it was going well. He reported that he feels safe in placement. He said that he has good relationships with everyone and that he mostly speaks to the main carer DA but can go to the secondary carer TA if he needs to. MM feels accepted as part of the family and is treated the same as their children PA, PA and ZA. MM does not feel that he is worried about anything. MM feels that DA and TA are good and caring people who care for him as well as possible. MM has felt that if he has any questions or needs advice, he is more than able to speak to DA and TA and he knows that they will support him. MM feels that he has a good advocate in DA and feels that he is well supported. There is nothing within placement that MM wishes to change.”
See Our Testimonials“DR describes placement as ‘not bad’. She feels safe within placement and her only desire is that she wishes to go back home. DR does not worry about anything within placement. She feels that because she would rather be at home than in placement, she does not want to settle or stay in placement. DR acknowledges that she does not make an effort to have and maintain a relationship with EA because she is not her Mum. She went on to say that there is nothing she wants changed within placement and that she is as happy as she can be. DR feels that EA is kind, caring and would always ensure that she is looked after and would protect her. She also feels that EA would be a good advocate for her. DR finished by saying that she feels that EA would answer any concerns that she has or support her if she was worried about anything.”
See Our Testimonials“KSE was spoken to separately regarding how he has experienced with the main carer KW and second carer JW. He said that he is happy living with his carers as they are nice people who clearly care about him. He feels that sometimes, he is not able to talk to them as he is not able to trust people easily due to his past experiences. He feels that they look after him and care about him and his feelings. He was clear that there is nothing that he is not happy about within the placement. KSE described 'Auntie KW' as kind, friendly and funny. He also said that 'Uncle R' is playful, cool and a superb uncle to him. He said that he gets on well with the children and argues with them as he expects that he would if he had siblings. KSE feels that when there have been meetings about him, that they have ensured that how he is feeling and what he thinks is taken into consideration and they make sure that this is voiced to others involved with him. He feels safe in their care and as much as he can, he feels that they have made him feel as though he is as part of the family.”
See Our Testimonials“ZM was spoken to as part of their Annual Review. He said that his carers were good and nice people, and he always felt safe when he was in their care. ZM said that he did not have one favourite thing about living there, and he loved everything. He said that he was always made to feel as though he was part of the family. ZM felt that living with his carers was nice because he was looked after, cared about and he felt listened to. He felt that this was especially the case with JW as he used to take ZM out most afternoons to play basketball and he could talk to him about anything. ZM felt that he always had advocates within KW and JW, particularly during reviews. ZM felt that the children were loving and that he had good relationships with both of them, ZM was fondly able to talk about how he taught one of the children to ride a bike and looked up to him. ZM felt that the other child was like a little sister to him and she was always herself. ZM feels that if he could say anything to KW and JW, he would ask to return to their care because he loved it so much. ZM is thankful and grateful for his carers, the care they gave and the way that they looked after him. ZM's final comment was 'they are amazing'.”

OE mentions that EO and GO were communicating with him, he could talk to them about any issues or problems and he could get advice from them. See Our TestimonialsI’m writing this email to you to tell you about what’s its like living with T. Its really nice living with T because when you do good things you get rewarded things like extra pocket money, get to go on rides and other stuff like that. And also the other good thing about living with T is I get to be a lot more independent and she’s going to be teaching me how to manage my money and cooking. I love living with T because we have 2 dogs, a cat and lots of fish. I’m starting to like walking the dogs because before we had to keep them on lead but now we can let them off lead but we still need to keep an eye on one off them because we just started to let B off. The dogs names are B and O and the cats name is M M and she called her that because the first day the cat saw T the cat mowed at her. We have lots of fun because she has a caravan we go Cornwall every summer I love going to Cornwall but the one thing I hate about it is the journey is it takes us about 10 hours to get there but a part from that it is really fun there and it has lots of beaches to go there, it has a trampling there. My over all point is living with T is really fun and if it wasn’t for T I wouldn’t be the person I am today. SH
